The Journey of Ernesto Ramirez
My story begins in the vibrant heart of Guanajuato, Mexico. Though my family moved to the Pacific coast of Mazatlán when I was five—where I developed a lifelong love for the ocean—the architectural beauty of my birthplace eventually called me back. At eighteen, I returned to Guanajuato to pursue my degree in Architecture, a period where I not only learned the language of structure and design but also rediscovered my deep-seated passion for painting. After years of practicing architecture across Mexico, I moved to Los Angeles in 2001. I spent two decades immersing myself in the tactile world of construction, tile artistry, and high-end design. However, it was a move from Long Beach to Palm Springs during the pandemic that finally allowed me to transition into my true calling as a full-time artist. Since then, I have been deeply honored by the desert community. I was named Best Visual Artist (2024/25) by the CV Independent and a Top Finalist for Best Visual Artist (2025/26). My first gallery, KEE Gallery, was recognized as the Top Art Gallery by the Desert Sun in 2024. Now, having recently launched Ernesto Ramirez Fine Art in December 2025, I am thrilled to welcome you into my first solo studio and gallery—a space that represents the culmination of a lifetime spent at the intersection of art and architecture. Medium & Method Informed by my background in architecture, I view my choice of materials as a construction of texture and light. I work fluidly across a range of mediums—including oils, wax, pastels, and acrylics—allowing the specific needs of each piece to dictate the technique. My practice is an evolving dialogue with materiality, and I remain dedicated to experimenting with new ways to bring structure and soul to the canvas. Inspiration: A Modern Mexican Surrealism Deeply rooted in my Mexican heritage, my work is a celebration of movement, energy, and uninhibited color. I seek to create a modern Mexican surrealist experience, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur through a vivid, chromatic lens. My La Lucha Libre series—a mixed-media exploration of acrylics, oils, wax, and pastels—serves as the definitive expression of my style: a bold, rhythmic, and colorful tribute to the spirit of my culture. |
